Beauty & Individuality in The Era of the Clones

This woman is BEAUTIFUL, without a doubt.

Dark hair, make-up accentuated eyes and lips...I must admit, I've been guilty of subscribing to this particular look on occasion and admiring the beauty of others who have as well. But I can't help but feel like this is becoming a deeper issue. As I scroll down my Instagram feed, I am bombarded with #WCWs (woman crush wednesday) who all look like this or strikingly similar...

 Wait...

(Sh*t, is anybody else yawning?) We need to broaden society's "expectations of beauty" spectrum. Don't get me wrong, this is quite the classic look- simple, yet heavy and "exotic", it draws they eye right in with the dark hair and brightly highlighted face. This look is stunning and something many girls can pull off, owing their "beauty" to what I call the Kardashian-esque dramatic look, and please note, this is specifically about this common LOOK, not the people wearing it.
But it is SO
                     DAMN
                                    BORING.

Everybody knows people who look like this are pretty, cool, we get it. But where are all my creative girls? I think the continued promotion of this look is severely limiting to women of all races ages and all shapes and sizes.  I just want to change the conversation and mentality. Try something different! I dare you to go:

curly

bright

                             chop it short

                                                GO BIG

This is just an ode to individuality and creative expression across many looks. No need to shave off half your head, dye the rest of your hair cotton candy pink and wear black lipstick (unless that's what your heart desires, if so, by all means). Just TRY something different, at least. Too many young girls I see worshiping and aspiring to this one specific look and quite likely feeling like they fall short of beauty standards if they don't look like Kim Kardashian (even if they claim to hate her, her look is almost becoming ubiquitous).  Ladies, we don't need clones; you don't need to have long dark beach waves or straight hair with a middle part and nude lipstick to be gorgeous. Switch it up once in a while. Here are some examples of gorgeous women wearing styles / looks that don't fit neatly into that category:

The world doesn't need clones. We don't need Kardashian look-alikes. We need beautiful, confident women who are bold and brave enough to try out different looks whether it be hair, or makeup and feel beautiful too. That's how we begin to broaden the beauty spectrum.
